Adoria PetersonAdoria Peterson has been connected to our Presbyterian SeniorCare Network Washington Campus for many years. First, she was first a visitor, then became a family member of a resident, and now she continues as a donor and weekly volunteer.

Adoria grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park, moving to Washington when she was in her twenties to be a horse groomer at The Meadows when The Meadows was only a racetrack. Later she became a waitress at the Hilton and met Frank “Bud” DeZomba. Bud hired Adoria to work for his insurance company, where she sold insurance and managed the office. Adoria’s first connection to Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s Washington Campus came when Bud’s mother was a resident of Southminster Place. “For ten years Adoria visited my mother 2-3 times a week, and even did her laundry which pleased my mother immensely,” says Bud.

When Adoria’s father passed away it became clear that her mother could not live alone. Knowing the excellent care received by Bud’s mother, Adoria felt confident moving her mother to the dementia care Woodside neighborhood at Southminster Place, where her mother thrived for several years before her passing.

Officially retiring from work 7 years ago, Adoria keeps a very busy schedule of Water Aerobics, Spin, Step, and Cross-fit classes five days a week.  Surprisingly she and Bud (even though he sold his insurance business) still go to the office 365 days a year. Work now consists of “puts and calls” for Bud and for Adoria it is gardening, feeding the birds, reverse osmosis for reclaiming water, and in the nice weather washing their cars.  Lunches are spent with a tight-knit circle of girlfriends for Adoria (Monday’s are at The Meadows!) and Bud has lunch at Napoli’s with a group of businessmen he has been lunching with since he met Adoria at the Hilton all those years ago.

Adoria began volunteering at Southminster Place’s Woodside neighborhood 4 years ago. She paints the nails of any resident interested in a warm chat and a little color.  “Helen is happy with any color on her nails just so long as it is pink,” Adoria quips about one resident.

Adoria and Bud are longtime companions – and longtime donors to Presbyterian SeniorCare Network in Washington. Grateful for the loving care their family members have received, they continue supporting the Washington campus today. Bud has included Presbyterian SeniorCare Network in his estate plans, to ensure that future generations of residents in Washington will have access to our quality person-centered care
